TABLE TENNIS: THE BLOCK SHOT

The Block Shot will throw your opponent off their ‘game’. Although if you use it too often your opponent with take advantage of it.
The best time to use the block shot is when your opponent plays a strong shot with topspin.

Stand a short distance away from the table with your shoulders squared towards your opponent. Balance your weight so that you are slightly on the balls of your feet. This will allow you to move quicker and easier. Shift your weight in the direction that the ball is coming from.

Using a short stroke, your racket arm should move from the elbow in a horizontal plane whilst your free arm should point towards the ball to assist with your balance.

Hit the ball as it’s rising (i.e. just after bouncing on your side of the table) using half of your stroke action before hitting the ball and half after hitting the ball.
